It never ceases to amaze me in this age of professional sport how quick people are to take the moral high ground. The argument over the Grant Elliott run out in the recent one day international is a case in point. By the ’spirit of the game’ the England captain (Paul Collingwood) should have called the player back to the crease as he was clearly, if unintentionally, obstructed. However, would the New Zealand captain (Daniel Vettori) have acted any differently?
Both players were going about their respective jobs when the collision occured and therefore no infringement of the laws of cricket had taken place.
In view of this ’storm in a tea-cup’ I ask this question - why is the same amount of fuss not made when any batsman, who has clearly snicked the ball to the wicket keeper or slips, does not walk voluntarily rather than waiting to be given out. Surely not walking when you are clearly out, even if the umpire is not sure, is worse than the events at the Oval?
Hypocracy rules ok??

Well.....It all happens at the spur of the moment I guess...In such pressure situations, people are expected to behave...But its not always possible...

Out of the field, they can sit together and share a drink, but on the field...they are enemies.

”Killer instinct” and of course...”Hypocrisy”

Honesty is a rare virtue. These days in a game winning becomes more important and above everything else.

In the heat of the game, such things happen; no team wishes to let its country down hence it goes on to cross the limits it’s supposed not to. As far as my personal viewpoint is concerned, it’s no hypocrisy, it’s over-enthusiasm that tends to become the source of brawl a no. of times.

As they say, every thiong’s fare in love and war’, and i believe that sports is no less than a war, in the end it’s all about winning

NZ made a big fuss about it but they themselves have done something similar to Murali in recent past

Talking about game spirit : None of the biggies of Cricket (or any other sports) have shown any, each team has managed to behave like idiots at some given point of time. I can’t say same about minnows because it’s hardly all about winning for them :P
