The Dwaine Chambers saga rumbles on. The UK athletics authorities are putting themselves in the path of a legal steamtrain that could potentially end in disaster.

It would seem to me that any athlete who is proved to have been using performance enhancing substances should be banned for life. This tough leading stance needs to come from the governing body of athletics - the IAAF. As it stands at present their response to this issue is wishy-washy at best and ‘ostrich-like’ at worst. Each individual national body can impose its own standards following the current mandatory two year ban - which is what has led to the present situation with Chambers. UK Athletics or the BOA has decided that any athlete in Chambers position will not be allowed to compete at the Olympics. As a professional athlete this will constitute restraint of trade. This sort of farcical situation will continue to happen unless and until the global governing body develops some spinal rigidity and makes a stand!
